Known for her commanding stage presence and elegant musicianship, cellist Qizhen Liu has given performances throughout Europe, North America, and Asia.

 

A prize-winning soloist, Qizhen is a prize winner of 2015 KC Music Club Competition, 2014 MTNA String Solo Competition, 2014 Sigma Alpha Iota Competition, 2012 Sorantin International Competition, 2006 Internationaler Jugendmusikwettbewerb in Ehigen, Germany, as well as 2005 Shanghai Conservatory Concerto Competition in China.

 

Qizhen's chamber music performances span the United States, Europe and Asia. As a member of the Oneiros String Quartet at Yale, she has performed in "Haydn Op.64 Quartets", the New Music New Haven Series and the Edgehill Concert Series and gave the premiere of Glen Cortese's "Swan Knight" at the Yale Off-Broadway Theater. Qizhen participated in numerous festivals around the world such as Fontainebleau Music Festival in France, Sarasota Music Festival in USA, Music Academy of the West in USA, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival in USA, Schleswig Holstein Music Festival in Germany, Morningside Music Bridge Music Festival in Canada, Zephyr International Chamber Music Festival in Italy.

 

As an orchestra musician, Qizhen has collaborated with renowned conductors including Christoph Eschenbach, Herbert Blomstedt, Mikhail Pletnev, Heinrich Schiff, Jahja Ling, Peter Oundjian, and William Christie in Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra, Yale Philharmonia, Bard Conservatory Orchestra. In 2012, Qizhen performed works by Handel under the baton of William Christie at Zankel Hall of Carnegie Hall.

 

Currently Qizhen is pursing her DMA at University of Missouri, Kansas City. She has received her Master of Music degree at Yale School of Music and Bachelor degree from Bard College and Bard Conservatory, where she double-majored in German Studies and Cello Performance.

 

In addition to music, Qizhen enjoys literature and politics which she studied for one semester at the Humboldt University in Berlin in 2010.
