Peggy Wegener

St. Bernard Parish, LA

Peggy Wegener of Chalmette, Louisiana holds a Bachelor of Music from Southeastern Louisiana University and a K-12 teaching certificate in both instrumental and vocal music. She has taught middle and high school vocal music in the St. Bernard Parish Public School System for thirteen years, during which time she has established a strings program and directed numerous musical theater productions at N. P. Trist Middle School. Ms. Wegener received a grant to purchase violins, launching an after-school music program for at-risk students called String Smart. In 2003, she was named Teacher of the Year at the school and district levels. Ms. Wegener has had nearly 50 students perform with the National Children’s and Youth Choirs at Carnegie Hall since 2004. She is currently working on a Master of Education in educational leadership.
