Paul Bakeman

Mechanicsville, VA

Paul Bakeman has completed 15 years of teaching general music at Rural Point Elementary School in Hanover County, Virginia, where he is a level III certified Orff-Schulwerk teacher. In 2001, Mr. Bakeman was selected as the Rural Point Elementary Teacher of the Year, and in 2002 he was R.E.B. Award for Teaching Excellence winner. With funds from that award, he traveled to Ghana to study African drumming and dance, and to Hawaii to study drum circle facilitation with Arthur Hull. Mr. Bakeman has published a recorder method book entitled Recorder Connections that is used by music teachers both nationally and internationally. In 2006, Mr. Bakeman became a National Board Certified Teacher in early-middle childhood music. He lives in Mechanicsville, VA with his wife and two daughters, and in his spare time enjoys playing the guitar with his classic rock band and leading community drum circles.
