Hawthorne, CA

Joy Devlin began studying piano at age six, and by eight was accompanying the church choir. Throughout her youth, teachers encouraged her to learn many instruments, study theory, participate in festivals and competitions, and personally took her to concerts. After high school, professional opportunities included teaching, concertizing, composing, arranging and musical direction culminating in working for Stevie Wonder as a transcriber/arranger during college. In 1997, as church choral director, Joy developed an after school music program at a Hollywood Catholic school serving many communities. In 2000, the youth choir was invited to work in the film and recording industry. In 2004, Joy was asked to rebuild the Hawthorne High choral program that was in ruins. By 2006, the Advanced Choir was invited to dedicate the Beach Boys monument performing Brian Wilson’s music in his presence. Joy is devoted to promoting success in her students through community service and national competitions.
