Hector Manuel Zavala Martinez was born in Monterrey N. L. Mexico. He began studying violin at the Escuela Superior de Musica y Danza de Monterrey in 1983 and earned his BA in violin performance there in 1999. He also studied at the University of Toronto and at Carnegie Mellon University. Mr. Zavala has attended Heifetz International Music Institute, Annapolis and San Miguel de Allende Festival, Mexico. He has received several honors and awards in the U.S. and Mexico. He has appeared as guest conductor with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Hidalgo in Mexico and with the International Gathering of Youth Orchestras in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. He has also appeared as guest conductor for all county orchestras in Virginia and Maryland. Mr. Zavala earned two master’s degrees in Music Education and in Instrumental Conducting in May 2004 from Shenandoah University. He is currently teaching strings and conducting two orchestras in Loudoun County, Virginia.
