Wyncote, PA

Glenn Cowen currently serves as the Director of Instrumental Music at Cheltenham High School in Wyncote, PA. He directs three concert bands, two orchestras, a marching band, a jazz band, three percussion ensembles, the pit orchestra for the school musical, and teaches AP Music Theory. Next year, he will be adding a new contemporary music ensemble aimed at engaging students who do not currently participate in music performance at the school. This course will not utilize a traditional notation approach, but rather a “lead sheet” style approach that focuses on contemporary harmony, improvisation, and forming socio-cultural connections. Glenn received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied composition with James Primosch, Jay Reise, and George Crumb and orchestral percussion with David Paroby of the Curtis Institute. Glenn remains an active composer and arranger, with several works for wind band, full orchestra, and jazz-fusion ensembles. He received his graduate degree in music education from the University of the Arts, where he studied under Patrick Jones. Glenn is married, has a seven-month-old daughter, and resides in suburban Philadelphia.
