The 24-year old Polish-American violinist, Piotr Filochowski currently studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in class of Shmuel Ashkenasi, Arnold Steinhardt, and Aaron Rosand. In 2012, he graduated from Yale University School of Music, where he studied with Hyo Kang. 

From 2005-2009, he attended Juilliard Pre-College and Professional Children’s School in New York City. Prior to moving to the US, he studied violin at music schools in Warsaw and Poznan (Poland).

Piotr is a prize-winner and participant of over 30 national and international violin competitions (including the Postacchini in Fermo, Italy; Paganini in Genoa, Italy; Paganini in Moscow, Russia; Menuhin in Beijing, China). He made his solo orchestra debut 
at age of 11, performing Vivaldi's Four Seasons at the Poznan Philharmonic Hall. At 14, he played Bazzini's La Ronde des Lutins on National Public Radio’s “From the Top.” 

In 2013-14 season, he performed as a soloist in Austria (Musikverein Brahms-Saal in Vienna), Germany (Moritzburg Festival Academy in Dresden), Slovenia (Wiener Philharmoniker Musik Forum in Trenta), and in the United States (Sarasota Music Festival). In the past, Piotr appeared in concerts at Carnegie Hall’s Weill, Zankel and Stern Auditoriums, Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher and Alice Tully Halls, Wiener Saal in Salzburg (Austria), Richardson Auditorium at Princeton University, National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, Mercersburg and Virginia Tech University Performing Arts Centers, Kosciuszko Foundation and the Polish Consulate in New York City, Ethical Society Building in Philadelphia, to name a few. In 2007, he gave a recital in Washington DC on invitation from the Washington Performing Arts Society.

In the summers 2006-2011, he worked with Itzhak Perlman (Perlman Music Program), Zakhar Bron and Pierre Amoyal (Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg), as well as Pinchas Zukerman (Young Artist Program in Ottawa). In addition, he has received instruction from Anne-Sophie Mutter, Ida Haendel, Midori, and Ruggiero Ricci. Recently, he won the 1st prize in the Young Artists Competition of Livingston Symphony Orchestra, with which he performed Paganini’s Violin Concerto No.1 in D Major. He also won the 1st prize in the Williams Chorale Performing Arts Competition in Massachusetts. In Spring 2009, Piotr auditioned for Maestro Zubin Mehta at the Avery Fisher Hall of the New York Philharmonic.

In addition to his active solo career, Piotr is an avid chamber and orchestral musician. He regularly plays with the Curtis Symphony, Opera and Chamber Orchestras. Since 2013, he has been appointed Assistant Concertmaster at the Symphony in C Orchestra in Camden, NJ. In 2014, Piotr was a founding member of the Valor Quartet that appeared on The Vocal Arts and Music Festival (Virginia) in June 2014.
